Your move
Play a card from your hand.
Cards: 2–10 add pip value; J=11, Q=12, K=13; A special; two 🃏 jokers. Options depend on math: add, divide if exact (n≥4), or take n‑th root if exact. Aces add 1 and the next card, then reverse. Jokers set any total 20–100.

How to Play — Wild Root

        • 1–6 players. If 1 human, L and R join as computers. If 2 humans, L joins.

        • Start each round with a shuffled 54‑card deck (two jokers), everyone gets 2 cards face down, total is a random 20–100, flow is clockwise, and a random starter is chosen.

        • On your turn: Everyone else looks away; your two cards are revealed. Play a card, draw a replacement unless the deck is empty, choose from allowed options to change the total, and state the new total.

        • Non‑Ace/Joker: you may add the card’s number (no points).
        • If the total is a perfect n‑th power, you may take the n‑th root (earn n points).
        • If the total is divisible by the card and the card is ≥4, you may divide (earn 1 point).
        • Ace: add 1 plus the next deck card’s number, then reverse play. No points.
        • Joker: set any total between 20 and 100. No points.

Total must change. Taking roots when the total is 1 is not allowed.

When the deck is empty, keep playing without drawing until all cards are played. That ends the round. The next round starts with the next player clockwise from the previous round’s starter. The game ends after each player has started one round.

        Detailed Guide — Wild Root

        Objective

Change the running total using number sense and earn points through smart mathematical plays. The player with the most points at the end wins!

        Setup

        • 1–6 players (computer players L and R join if needed)
        • 54-card deck with two jokers (A, 2–10, J=11, Q=12, K=13)
        • Each player starts with 2 cards
        • Starting total: random integer between 20 and 100
        • Play direction: clockwise (can reverse with Ace)

        Game Flow

        1. On your turn, select a card from your hand to play
        2. Choose an action based on what's mathematically possible
        3. Enter the new total (for practice!)
        4. Draw a replacement card (if deck isn't empty)
        5. Next player's turn

Important: The total must change each turn. Taking roots when total = 1 is not allowed.

        Card Actions & Points Chart

        Card Action Points
2–K (non-special) Add: Add card value to total 0
2–K (if exact root) Take n-th root: If total is a perfect n-th power, reduce to the root +n points
4–K (if divisible) Divide: If total ÷ card value is exact (and card ≥ 4) +1 point
Ace (A) Special: Add 1 + next card from deck, then reverse play direction 0
Joker (🃏) Wild: Choose any total between 20 and 100 0

        Examples

        Total = 64, Hand = [6, 8]

        • Play 8 → Divide: 64 ÷ 8 = 8 (+1 point)
        • Play 6 → 6th root: ⁶√64 = 2 (+6 points)
        • Play either → Add: 64 + 6 = 70 or 64 + 8 = 72 (0 points)

        End of Round & Game

        • When the deck is empty, continue playing without drawing
        • Round ends when all players have played all their cards
        • Next round starts with the next player clockwise
        • Game ends after each player has started one round
        • Player with the most points wins!

        Strategy Tips

        • Look for perfect powers (4, 8, 9, 16, 25, 27, 32, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100...)
        • Higher-order roots earn more points (cube root = 3 pts, 6th root = 6 pts)
        • Save your Jokers for when you're stuck
        • Use Aces strategically to change play direction
